Prediction Statement

By January 31, 2028, at least two of the top ten applicant tracking / talent platforms by market presence (the candidate set: Workday, Oracle Recruiting, SAP SuccessFactors, iCIMS, Greenhouse, Lever, SmartRecruiters, Bullhorn, Ashby, LinkedIn Talent Hub) will offer a generally available candidate-intake path in which the profile presented to recruiters is generated from verified external sources — linked code repositories, verified employment or education records, or cryptographically signed skill credentials — rather than parsed from a self-authored resume document.

Disclosure: I lead engineering on AI intake and matching systems at Bullhorn. This prediction is my own and is informed by, not privileged to, that vantage. Bullhorn shipping such a feature counts toward resolution on the same terms as any other platform.

Resolution criteria, stated in advance:

  • Resolves YES if, on or before 2028-01-31, two or more platforms from the candidate set have a generally available (not beta, not pilot) feature whose primary intake artifact is verified-source data rather than an uploaded resume. The resume may still exist as an optional attachment; what must change is that the profile recruiters evaluate is generated from sources the platform verified.
  • Resolves PARTIALLY (scored 50-69) if exactly one platform ships it GA, or if two or more ship it only as beta/limited-availability programs.
  • Resolves NO if by the target date verified-source profiles remain add-ons layered on top of resume parsing (verification badges attached to a self-authored document do not count), or exist only in niche developer-hiring tools outside the candidate set.

Reasoning/Analysis

I made the underlying claim in public on August 4, 2026, replying to a talent leader on LinkedIn: the CV stops being a document you author and becomes a generated view of sources you can verify. This prediction converts that take into a dated, falsifiable form.

The mechanism is already visible from the machine's side. AI-generated resumes are converging — the same phrasing, the same quantified bullets, the same structure — which collapses the signal value of the document itself. When every applicant's document is polished, the document stops discriminating, and screening systems have to reach for signals candidates cannot generate: shipped work, commit history, verified employment records, signed credentials. Industry coverage in 2026 already points this direction: AI screeners are being recalibrated to weight verifiable credentials over self-asserted skills, and skills-verification APIs that bypass resume parsing are beginning to appear in next-generation ATS platforms.

The economic pressure runs the same way. Application volume has exploded because generating a tailored application is now nearly free, so the cost of screening has shifted from candidates to employers. Verified-source intake is the employer-side answer: it is cheaper to query a source of truth once than to parse and de-duplicate a thousand near-identical PDFs.

What keeps this from being a certainty is enterprise procurement speed. ATS platforms sell to HR departments with multi-year contracts, compliance review cycles, and deep workflow inertia around the resume as a legal artifact. The technology exists today; the 18-month question is purely whether two major vendors productize it GA on that clock.

  • Verification remaining a badge layered onto self-authored documents through 2027 — decoration on the old artifact rather than replacement of it.
  • Legal or compliance pushback (EEOC/OFCCP record-keeping expectations built around the submitted resume) freezing vendor roadmaps.
  • The major platforms spending the window on AI copilot features for recruiters instead of intake redesign, which is where the marketing energy was through 2026.

Key Indicators
