About World Community Grid
World Community Grid is a volunteer computing platform operated by the Krembil Research Institute, part of the University Health Network in Toronto. It pools the idle compute of hundreds of thousands of devices worldwide and dispatches scientific workloads to the network.
The platform runs on BOINC — the same Berkeley-developed framework behind SETI@home and Folding@home — and has supported research that produced peer-reviewed publications on cancer markers, neglected diseases, COVID-19 antiviral candidates, and clean water nanofilters.
Your computer only contributes when it's idle and you're not using it. There's no impact on your day-to-day usage, and you can pause or stop at any time.
