A former chip designer turned whistleblower has twelve hours to smuggle evidence of a massive semiconductor fraud out of the world's largest tech conference before the keynote that will make the lie permanent.

Stairwell D, east side. Fifteen minutes. I'll have a badge.
The fifteen minutes were the longest of her life. She spent them in a single-occupancy restroom off the east corridor, sitting on the closed lid of the toilet, reviewing the building diagram on her phone. "I don't need the cage open. I need a network port on the same VLAN."
He stared at her. "You're going to pull the logs remotely?"
"The diagnostics rig runs Archon's internal monitoring stack. Port 9443, self-signed cert, default credentials that nobody ever changes because the machine is supposed to be air-gapped."
"It is air-gapped."
"It's air-gapped from the internet. It's not air-gapped from the local switch in that room. There's a building network drop six feet from the cage. I plug in, I'm on the same Layer 2 segment."
Marcus closed his eyes briefly. When he opened them, something had shifted in his expression. Not quite resolve. More like resignation. "They're going to know it was me."
"Not if the badge access logs show a booth tech who was supposed to be here anyway."
"Reina. They're going to know."
She held his gaze. There was a version of this conversation where she told him it would be fine, that they could both walk away clean. She did not have the energy for that version. "Then you need to decide right now whether you can live with that."
He handed her the badge. She took it and descended.
Sublevel one smelled like chilled concrete and ozone. The corridor was wide enough for equipment carts, lit by caged LEDs that cast everything in a sterile blue-white. Her footsteps echoed. She found the patch panel, identified an open port on the same switch that fed the diagnostics cage, and connected her laptop with a short Ethernet cable. Her live image booted in eleven seconds. The transfer would take eight minutes. The files were large: full hardware trace logs with cycle-accurate timing data, the kind of evidence that could not be fabricated after the fact because every entry carried a cryptographic hash chained to the processor's hardware security module. This was not a spreadsheet someone could claim was doctored. This was the chip itself testifying about its own performance, signed with a key that only the silicon knew.
At minute three, the door opened.

The door closed. Reina exhaled.
At 8:03 AM the transfer completed. She disconnected the Ethernet cable, shut the laptop, packed everything into the backpack. She wiped the switch port's MAC address table entry with a three-command script. She left B-117, passed through the unstaffed turnstile, climbed Stairwell D, and emerged into the east corridor, which was now populated with early-arriving exhibitors wheeling cases of merchandise and promotional material.
She walked through them like water through a sieve. Her phone buzzed. Marcus.

She didn't intend to. She had a rental car in the south garage. She had a flight out of the regional airport at 2:15 PM. She had a journalist at the Financial Tribune who had agreed to receive the files, verify them, and publish before the market opened the next morning.
She made it to the south entrance. She pushed through the glass doors into pale morning sunlight and the sound of shuttle buses and the distant thunder of a freeway.
